Serves: 5 to 6

Raw rice - 1 cup
Moong dal - 2 TBSP (optional)
Kalkandu / Small Sugar candy - 1 1/4 cup
Water - 1 1/2 cup
Milk - 1 1/2 cup
Ghee / Clarified butter - 2 TBSP
Broken Cashew nuts - 1 TBSP
Raisins - 1 TBSP
Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
Method:
- Wash rice and moong dal (if using) thoroughly.
- Add water and milk and pressure cook for 4 to 5 whistles.
- Once the pressure goes down, and add kalkandu (sugar candy).
- On a low to medium heat, cook till the kalkandu melts, stirring constantly.
- Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a small skillet. Add the raisins and cashews. Fry until golden brown.
- Add it to the rice mixture along with the remaining ghee and cardamom powder. Mix well.
- Serve warm.
